The Watch

Some things are meant to be kept. A promise. A prayer. A light that doesn’t go out when the room goes dark.

The Watch is hand-carved from Indiana limestone, quarried in Owen County, with a small wooden cross lashed to its face by a single leather cord — tied by hand, the way you’d secure something you meant to hold onto. The stone is left honest: the saw marks, the weight, the cool grain of it in your palm. At the top, a hollow waits for a tea light. Set the flame, and the whole piece does the one thing it was made to do — keep watch.

“My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning.” — Psalm 130:6

It’s a piece for the nightstand, the windowsill, the quiet corner where someone prays. It’s for the table set in memory of one who’s gone, and for the person still keeping the light on. Faith you can hold, and a flame to hold it by.

  • How substantial are these pieces? Where should I display them?

They have a solid, powerful presence. These are heavy, heirloom-quality sculptures (typically weighing around 2 to 4 pounds). They are designed with a sturdy flat foundation, making them perfect for prominent display on a mantel, bookshelf, desk, or dedicated home-altar space where they won't easily tip.
